On Monday 3 June, we at Lincoln City of Sanctuary held an event to celebrate the excellent work being undertaken in Lincoln and the surrounding region to support those who have come to the UK in search of sanctuary. At the event, numerous local groups and organisations who are spearheading Lincoln’s sanctuary efforts shared their inspirational stories and plans for the future. Represented at the event were the Lincolnshire Refugee Doctor Project; Upbeat Communities; the Justice, Arts and Migration Network; Welcome Town; and Greater Lincolnshire Area of Sanctuary. The event also marked the official launch of Lincoln as a City of Sanctuary.
It was a fantastic evening! Lincoln City of Sanctuary thank everyone who attended and spoke at the event, in particular, Malka al-Haddad for sharing her personal experiences articulated so beautifully and powerfully through her poetry, ‘Birds without Sky: Poems from exile’. Thanks also to Lincoln Drill Hall for their generous hosting. We hope the connections made between attendees at the event will help to further strengthen the success of all projects moving forward, as well as inspire others to get involved and start further initiatives that promote and support sanctuary in Lincoln and the Greater Lincolnshire region.
